Foundation is Key...

We have had with us in training, The Gypsy Wizard, or Harry for over a year so we know him first hand. We also stood him through his first breeding season in 2005 with almost a hundred percent conception rate (live cover only). He is short backed, with clean flat bone, and a pretty head. He is not a big one standing at only around 14 hands, the traditional size currently being bred in England and he is homozygous for the pinto gene. This is my favorite picture of Harry (left). I took it while he was at our ranch last winter. Normally this much snow is unheard of but we were in the midst of hundred year storms. I am not a photographer but I have been told a few times that I have a knack for photographing horses. I was thrilled that Feather Hill Farms choose to use this photo in so many aspects of Harry’s advertising campaign. Given that their daughter is a photographer (see some of her awesome work on our site) I feel honored they found my amateur “snapshot” worthy of so much publicity!

Charlie is a direct son of the original, legendary, Road Sweeper. This is the original Road Sweeper in the UK not the new one called that in the US. He is very correct in conformation and has tons of hair. The Road Sweeper, his father, was so named because his feather was so long it swept the ground. Charlie is the sire of our good mare, Clean Sweep. When we had our filly imported, Charlie was still in the UK, however we are pleased to know that he was recently imported to the US where he is currently standing. Our mare, Clean Sweep, as of this writing (February, 2005) is the only foal out of this stallion on the ground in the US. Take a look at her page and you can see this boy can really produce. While his new owners registered Charlie with the Vanner Society, and his get, our Sweeper mare, is registered with the Gypsy Cob Society, we know the discerning breeder recognizes that the registry is far less important than the bloodlines, conformation and temperament when you are looking for a foundation to your breeding program. Sue, his current owner, has shared with me that Charlie has the awesome, mild, disposition that these horses are known for and we are pleased that this same temperament was passed on to our good mare Clean Sweep.

We are delighted that Charlie’s owners have indicated he is available to breed to our registered Gypsy Cob Horses and look forward to introducing his bloodlines into our other foundation mares.
